Cut the Cake
Second graders were really hungry, so
we “Cut the Cake.”
First we started off with a fun game about cake. Since it
was such a nice day, we played the game outside.
Then we reviewed quarter rest, quarter note, and eighth note.
Next we read the book, A Cake All for Me, written by Karen Magnuson Beil
Then, we talked about measurements and applied this to music.
Finally, we got out the hand drums and practiced rhythms from these "cake" rhythm cards that I created.
As the students were leaving, I told them to go home and eat some cake!
